The tracks were written by Alexandra Monir, her songwriting partner Heather Holley (of Christina Aguilera success), and Michael Bearden. The tracks incorporate musical sounds from the historical eras featured in the story.

Grace is completely devoted to God, but has a highly inquisitive mind thanks to her father who teaches her the importance and the power of question. But when her dad is expelled from their church for asking too many questions, Grace is torn. She blames herself for interrupting prayer at school, mixing with ‘outsiders’ and for asking too many questions.

Setting out on a mission to find her dad and bring him home, Grace begins to understand the manipulative hold the men of her church, and particularly her grandfather, has over her family and she realises the truth behind her father’s expulsion.

News: RHCB's Paranormal Romance Virtual Panel Event on Once Upon a Bookcase!

Big, big news, guys! Once Upon a Bookcase is collaborating with Random House Children's Books UK to bring you...

A PARANORMAL ROMANCE VIRTUAL PANEL EVENT WITH LAUREN KATE, KAREN MAHONEY, AND AMY MEREDITH!

fallen by lauren kate the iron witch by karen mahoney shadows by amy meredith

Yes, you read that right! On 4th February at 5.00pm GMT for one hour, with the help of Chatroll, you will get the chance to have a live chat event with the authors of Fallen, The Iron Witch, and Shadows about writing YA paranormal romance - their writing, their influences, their reading, etc!

Why am I telling you so early? Because these things need to be organised! If you want to be involved, there are somethings you need to do.

  • Fill in the form below with one question you would like to ask the authors by 28th February - only one because there are bound to be so many of you who want to take part, and we would like the authors to bounce off each other. The authors will get through as many of the questions sent in as possible in the one hour.
  • Also include the username you will go by. You do not have to be registered with Chatroll to take part, they allow guests - and as a guest, you can choose your own username. I suggest, if you're a blogger, your username is something others will recognise you as, either your name_blog, or something along those lines. Please no weird confusing names! BoOkFan877542 just isn't necessary. If you don't want to use your real name, feel free to use a fake one.
EDIT: The date to submit questions has been extended for a few days so more questions can come in. Please get those questions in ASAP!

Why do I need all this? Because it's going to be a live chat with lots of people chatting at once, and the authors won't know who to answer. This way, with the questions in advance, they can have some idea what they'll be talking about, and there can be some sort of order over the chat as I or Lauren, Senior Press Officer Extraodinaire at RHCB, who will also be a moderator, can direct each person to ask their question and when, i.e "Our fifth question comes from Sam" - Sam then asks question. Make sense?

Because we're getting questions in in advance, does that mean you can't ask questions during the actual event? No it doesn't. Sure, people are bound to want to bounce off other people - blogger and author alike - as this will be a discussion, you just not might have your question answered as the advanced questions will take priority to keep things moving. This may seem harsh, but it's to prevent any confusion and make it interesting!

If there are any questions about all of this, please leave them in the comments, and I will get back to you with an answer, or as soon as I have an answer!

I look forward to seeing you there! Please feel free to spread the word! Let's make it a really great event! If you can post the banner below on your blog, with a link to this post, I would be extremely, grateful!

virtual panel event

No longer accepting any more questions! Panel is over!

News: Regarding Buying Vampire Academy Series with Red Covers

last sacrifice by richelle meadSince I posted a few weeks back about all the new red UK covers for the whole Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead, I have had a few people come to me asking where they can get them. Everyone seemed to be saying the same thing; either online or in actual shops, they could only find either Frostbite or Last Sacrifice with the new covers.

I emailed my contact at Puffin about this and found out some information. It turns out that the novels with the new covers will become available once the novels with the old covers sell out, and a reprint is needed. Then the new covers will be available to buy. Last Sacrifice has only been released with this one cover, and Frostbite has been reprinted, hence the red cover. The other novels in the series are yet to need reprinting, which is why we can't find them anywhere. Apparently, it could take a couple of months before we see the new red covers on our bookshops' shelves or on online stores. It's just a case of waiting, I'm afraid. Hope this helps some of you!

News: Various

I have a fair few things to share with you all!

First of all, I'm going to ask for some help. A story has been made from one of my prompts! Holly Schindler, author of A Blue So Dark and forthcoming Playing Hurt, has been holding a Flash Fiction Challenge! Basically, readers emailed her with prompts - anything from a string of words, a phrase, a subject an idea, etc - and she chose the one she liked best each month, starting in September and wrote a piece of flash fiction from it. For December, she chose my prompt and used it as her title, "What the Eyes Don't See"! Oooh, I am sooo chuffed!

Now all the stories are finished, each reader can vote for their favourite one, and the person whose prompt wins gets a prize! So please vote for mine! Unless you prefer one of the others of course. Fortunately, my story, links to the other stories and the voting form are all in one blog post on Holly's blog, here. Go check it out. Even if you don't vote for mine, be sure to read the stories, they're all awesome! Voting closes on 15th Dec!

---------------------------------------------------

The 2010 Goodreads Choice Awards are running now! There are so many brilliant novels up for nomination, based on popularity of Goodreads and reader ratings, so go check it out. Whether you're a YA fan or not, there is something everyone will want to vote for! Even if you're only a YA fan, make sure to check out the other catagories too. Sometimes a YA book may fall into another catagory as well! Go get voting!

News: Boy's Don't Cry by Malorie Blackman iPhone App!

Great news for Malorie Blakman fans an iPhone users from Random House!

Boys Don't Cry by Malorie BlackmanWe have some exciting news about a brand new App created especially for the release of Boys Don’t Cry – it is out now to download from the Apple store, the press release below explains all:

"Random House Children’s Books has commissioned leading digital production company Somethin’ Else to create My CriBaby, an iPhone and iPod Touch app to coincide with the publication of Malorie Blackman’s new book Boys Don’t Cry, a powerful novel about teenage fatherhood. This app marks a first for both companies; it is Random House Children’s Books’ first iPhone app and the first iPhone app Somethin’ Else has produced for a publisher.

In a recent survey of teenage boys aged 13-19 published by Random House Group and children’s charity Coram, 77% of respondents admitted they would not know what to do if a baby cried; nearly half said they would struggle to change a nappy, and a third said that they would find it difficult to feed a baby. Dressing and bathing the baby were other areas of concern for teenage boys.

My CriBaby puts these skills to the test, challenging the user to look after a baby, doing everything from feeding and burping to playing, rocking and whispering to it. The game gets progressively harder and at the end of three (virtual) years the player is given a score. Facebook integration means this can be shared with friends.

The app will be available in two versions. A lite version will give users a 24-hour experience of the game, whilst a full version will offer virtual parenthood for up to three “virtual” years (12 weeks). Both versions will include the book’s first chapter and a link to Malorie’s re- launched website.

The app is designed to reflect the main theme of Boys Don’t Cry: teenage parenthood. The novel is the latest book from Malorie Blackman, the acclaimed young adult author of the bestselling Noughts and Crosses sequence. It focuses on seventeen year old Dante, whose ex-girlfriend turns up at his house and leaves him with the baby daughter he didn’t know he had. The book follows Dante as he comes to terms with fatherhood and how drastically it will affect his life. The hard hitting novel gives a voice to a group largely ignored by society.

My CriBaby is available to download now from the Apple Store:

Can you give me a OMG!? Hello shower! Is this YA? Really, is it? Because... wow. I guess they kind of got a bit... hot. EEE I LOVE IT! And I love the switch of roles with this book! Oooh, I am dyyyying to read it! But what is he holding in his hand?

The only thing that worries me about this cover is what those people who like to have fun by ruining our fun by banning books might think. This doesn't look like a cover that will go under their radar. And this worries me. But I loooove it! I am sooo excited!

News: Angela Morrison to Blog the Third Book in the Taken By Storm Trilogy

We had Taken by Storm, we now have Unbroken Connection. Now Angela Morrison is going to give us Cayman Summer - as she writes it! I'll let her tell you in her own words...

cayman summer by angela morrisonI'm trying a huge experiment with this novel. I'm going to blog it as I write it. You'll get to see all my messy rough drafts, half-baked poems, and help me revise! The CAYMAN SUMMER Blog will officially launch October 15th. I'll let you know when the site goes live. This is going to be a great creative adventure for me. I hope you join in.

I think this is such an AWESOME idea! I still need to get my hands on a copy of Unbroken Connection, so I may not read it when the blog starts, but how cool to actually see an author write, and the process she goes through? I think it's going to be awesome.

And check out that swanky new cover! Her son Rob designed it! Nifty, huh? A very talented family!

            inside out fest

The Inside Out Festival celebrates the exciting and often unexpected contribution made by London universities to the literary and cultural life of the capital. Festival-goers can hear from some of today’s most successful writers and learn from some of London’s most eminent literary scholars.

Goldsmiths, City University London, Birkbeck, Queen Mary, University of London and Royal Holloway, University of London are amongst the nine university institutions throwing open their doors for the week of public events which will include film screenings, music and theatre performances, art and fashion exhibitions, and talks with well-known academics and high-profile commentators. The events will take place all over London at cultural venues such as the Barbican, the National Portrait Gallery and Somerset House, and in rarely-seen spaces in the universities.

Sally Taylor, Inside Out Festival Director, said: “London universities are nurturing some of the best new literary talent through their world-class creative writing courses. We’re thrilled to have some of the major players in the literary world today – many of them alumni and academics from these courses – sharing their insights, expertise and experiences in this year’s Inside Out Festival.”
