First Class Post (58) & Weekly Recap

First Class Post - because this post is first class!

First Class Post

Check out Showcase Sunday over on Books, Bisuits and Tea.

I had some issues with my internet last weekend, so I couldn't post. However, I only received one book, so it doesn't matter to much.

For review:

Purity by Jackson Pearce - I requested this for SiTL Month II. It sounds so good! Looking forward to it!

Grasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith - This is a bit different. It sounds quite odd, and I'm not really sure it will be my cup of tea, but I'm intrigued. I also heard it has a bisexual character in it, and I'm all for highlight LGBTQ YA, so I'll hopefully read it this month for LGBT+ April.

Are the Kids All Right? by B. J. Epstein - This is a non-fiction book about LGBTQ kids' books. B. J. Epstein wrote a guest post for my blog for LGBTQ YA Month last year, and I have been really interested in reading her book ever since. I think it will make for fascinating reading! I'm not one for non-fic, but it's about books I read, and will remind me of when I had to write about books at school/uni and read these kinds of books, and that is strangely appealing. :) Really looking forward to it! Could also work for LGBT+ April, I think.

NetGalley:

You're the One That I Want by Giovanna Fletcher - This is the book I received last week. I said earlier in the year I wanted to read more adult romance. Not only does this sound like it might be cute, but Giovanna Fletcher is Tom Fletcher of McFly's wife. Doesn't necessarily mean her novels will be good, but I'm interested to see if they are. (Not pictured.)

Won:

Landline by Rainbow Rowell (Proof) - I HAVE LANDLINE!!! I won this in a Twitter giveaway for bloggers, where you had to tweet your favourite line from one of Rowell's novels, and five people would be picked. I was one of them! :D My favourite line? Obviously, it was, 'The me that's me right now is yours. Always.' (p312) from Eleanor and Park! SO excited to read this! :D Thank you Orion and Cherry Picks!

Thank you to Hodder Children's Books, Electric Monkey, HammerOn Press, and Penguin via NetGalley for the review copies.

Inspired by Faye of A Daydreamer's Thoughts's Weekly Highlights, here is a recap of my posts over the last week, and anything else I found interesting.

Reviews:

Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor Daylighters by Rachel Caine

Last week I read one book, but reviewed two. Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor is absolutely incredible, and a fantastic end to the trilogy. Daylighters by Rachel Caine was the book I read, and the final book in The Morganville Vampires series was kind of disappointing, sadly. But I still love the series over all.

Prince of Shadows by Rachel Caine How They Met by David Levithan

This week I read 2 LGBTQ YA novels, which brings my total for LGBT April up to 2. Prince of Shadows by Rachel Caine, and this book is just amazing! So, so good! Accessible Shakespeare retelling of Romeo and Juliet, but staying pretty true to the original play. Amazing! And an incredible historical LGBTQ YA novel! How They Met by David Levithan is a beautiful short story collection, full of stories about love. Some really amazing ones too, with most, though not all, LGBTQ stories. Simply wonderful!

Other posts:

These posts are all from last week rather than this week.

I interviewed the cover designer of The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton, Matt Roeser, for A Novel Cover Up.

For the LGBT Reading Challenge, there are also discussions for participants to take part in. March's discussion was LGBT YA Covers, so I shared my favourites.

  2. Great haul :) I'm going to try and get some LGBT YA, but it's tricky to find any when you're as skint as me!
    Happy reading!

    1. I don't think it will be my cup of tea either, but I'll give it a go. We'll see!

Landline was awesome! I didn't enjoy Fangirl as much as her other novels - Landline is so much better! :)
