J.K. Rowling’s universally popular books have been read and enjoyed by millions of readers. The newly designed ‘Signature’ livery will appeal to the next generation of readers who did not ‘grow up’ with Harry Potter and who have not yet experienced the thrill of life at Hogwarts.

The new illustrations are by renowned linocut artist Clare Melinsky and the design has been created by Webb and Webb Design Limited. Clare Melinsky’s illustrations follow the style of traditional woodcuts and will appear on the front cover, back cover and spine for all seven titles in the Harry Potter series.

Clare Melinsky commented, ‘I was delighted and excited to be asked to illustrate the covers for such massively famous books – and seven of them! It was top secret for the best part of a year.’

The ‘Signature’ livery will be exclusively available in paperback format, with a publication date of 1st November 2010.

  1. I like them - classic, slightly old-fashioned.

  2. Oh, thanks for pointing this out, I had no idea !

Like Keren said, they do have a kind of old-fashioned look. I like that. I'm not a huge fan of the Harry Potter font style and color though, I feel like it takes out the whole balance of the cover. But I like the illustrations.

  3. Ooh, I'm not sure about this! :) I'm a bit traditionaist on these books. I like the current UK covers and only those!

  4. Interesting! I like the drawings but I'm not liking the fonts used and I really dislike the parchment (ripped around the edge?) background for some reason. It looks like it's aimed at older readers.
I prefer the UK children's version with the panels and Harry Potter in each illustration

  6. I prefer the original covers and the U.S. covers to the old fashioned look of this set.

  7. Keren - I'm not a big fan, I don't think. I'm not sure. Though my faves are Prisoner of Azkaban and Half-Blood Prince.

Charlotte - They're ok, but I think the old-fashionedness of them puts me off. They don't look as magical, I think. I don't know. I'm not a fan of the font, either.

Sophie - I think I have the same opinion. I loved the current children's covers. I don't know much about the adults, I can't remmeber what they look like, but I think I remember thinking the ones I've seen aren't too bad. But I don't think I'm a fan of these.

Several Billion - I think I'm with you. I don't like the white background at all. I do prefer the current UK children's covers.

Jenn - Same! My covers are cool ;) I'm not big on these. But.. if they get more kids reading them, and reading in general, it can only be a good thing!

Chirstina - I also prefer the US covers to these ones, though I prefer the current UK kids covers to the US ones. I guess I'm picky :)

  10. Hmm, they look nice, but I still prefer the US one's...

  11. Yeah, I'm not much of a fan of them, either.

  12. Ooh, I really like the drawings, but I don't think they beat the US hardcovers. Those babies will never be replaced!

  13. I feel the same about the UK kids hardcovers. I love them!

  14. I love these new covers but i can't imagine there is single person left who hasn't got all these books. Even if new readers are coming through, surely homes with older siblings will have copies.
