Changes to Once Upon a Bookcase

Changes to Once Upon a Bookcase

You may not have really noticed - since I've been on top of my scheduling game for months, and it's only this week that posts haven't been posted as usual - but I've been on hiatus for a few weeks. If it had gone on much longer, I would have written a post to let you know, but I'm coming back now. There have been a number of things that have happened in my family life recently, and I just needed to take a break to focus on my family and myself, and my own well being.

But while I've been away, I've also been doing a lot of thinking. About this blog, my writing, and what I want to write about. And I've made a decision. While I will still be reviewing books, having bookish discussions, interviews and what have you - because books are still such a massive part of my life - Once Upon a Bookcase is no longer going to be primarily a book blog. It's going to be a "me" blog. Where I talk about my other hobbies and interests, other things I love, and whatever is on my mind. I'd love this blog to feel just a little more like me, showing other aspects of myself, and for you guys to get to know me better. Ultimately, I just want to write about what I want to write about, and allow myself to. So this is a little post to introduce you to who I am outside of books, and give you an of idea of what I might be writing about in future.

So hi. I'm Jo, I'm 32, and I'm a Children's Bookseller. I am a big kid at heart, full of a childlike sense of wonder, who becomes so full of joy and excitement over simple things like seeing the first daisies of the year, or when there's a rainbow. I'm quite introverted and shy generally, but really come out of myself among those I love, and quite happy to make a full of myself on purpose for a laugh. I have anxiety and I also suffer with migraines, which I'll probably write about sometimes.

My interests include:
  • Musical theatre
  • Forests, beaches, being in nature
  • Pre-Raphelite paintings, and paintings that feature mythology in general
  • Going to museums and galleries
  • Witchcraft
  • Feminism

and more. You might want to check out the Why I Am Weird Tag I did, as there's more there. The blog title will stay the same. The "Once Upon a..." speaks to my childlike wonder and joy, and, well, books aren't the only things people put on bookcases. There are also photographs, ornaments, and other significant items to the owner. Looking at someone's bookcase will give a tiny glimpse into who someone is - as this blog will now give you more of an idea of who I am.

I hope you'll support me as Once Upon a Bookcase expands and evolves, but I understand if it becomes something you're no longer interested in. But I'm so very excited and looking forward to taking the blog in this new direction. Whether you stay or whether you go, the changes to the blog are going to make me happier and fill a little more fulfilled, and that can only be a good thing.

Over to you graphic

So what do you think of these changes? Will you still be reading Once Upon a Bookcase? If you're a blogger, have you ever felt about taking your blog in a new direction? Is there anything you would like to know, or anything you want to hear more about? I do have several blog post ideas in the works already, but I'd be happy to hear what you'd be interested in reading about. Use the comments as a way to ask me anything, and your question may become a blog post.

  1. I read a lot of book blogs that talks about more than books so your changes wouldn't effect my reading your blog. It's your blog so you can do whatever you like. I've not been a visitor to you blog long but I can say, as long as you post things that interest me, than yes, I would continue to visit you.

    Have a lovely day.

  2. I will still be reading! I have been blogging in one form or another since 2006 so I have made a couple of 'big changes' myself. I narrowed in on book blogging back in 2014. Personally, I remain most interested in writings about books/reading but I am sure I will find your posts on witchcraft, nature, and other topics intriguing as well. I hope these changes make blogging even more enjoyable for you :)
