LGBTQ YA Month is Here!

LGBTQ YA Month is finally here!

LGBTQ YA month

Back in September 2012, after seeing a discussion on Twitter about LGBTQ YA, I realised I had only read one LGBTQ YA novel. One. I decided this needed to be remedied, and what better way to do so than with another themed blog event? So LGBTQ YA Month was born to look at how authors write about LGBTQ teens.

I believe that opening a discussion about teen issues - whatever the topic - is important, both for those who are experiencing such things and those who aren't. I'm hoping that LGBTQ YA Month will shine a light on books that may educate and further understanding of LGBTQ teen experiences, like they have for me, but that will also maybe help LGBTQ teens feel less alone, at least.

Although I'm calling it LGBTQ YA Month, I will be covering the whole QUILTBAG spectrum (Queer/Questioning, Undecided, Intersex, Lesbian, Transgender/Transsexual, Bisexual, Allied/Asexual, Gay/Genderqueer) - LGBTQ is quicker to say and easier to fit on a button. I have read a number of books for the Month in many genres covering romance, thriller, dystopia, historical, fantasy, contemporary including coming out stories/LGBTQ "problem novels", and many more.

The month will include reviews and giveaways, author interviews, and guest posts from authors, fellow bloggers, academics, editors, and literary inclusion campaigners! I have some fantastic content to share with you all, and I'm so excited for you to read it all and get discussing! Really hope you enjoy following the posts for LGBTQ YA Month as I have working on it.

Be sure to keep an eye on the LGBTQ YA Month page, where you will find the schedule which I will be updating with links to each post as the month goes on.
