Book News

I received quite a bit of news recently, so here you go!

Help Reach Out and Read and Scholastic's You Are What You Read Give Books to Others This Holiday Season

As a fellow book lover, you know books have the power to impact our lives. What books influenced you the most?

Live on The View today, Whoopi Goldberg kicked off Scholastic’s “One Million Bookprints for One Million Books” Campaign – an initiative to donate one million books to kids in need through the literacy nonprofit Reach Out and Read. By joining Scholastic’s online book community YouAreWhatYouRead.com, you can make a Bookprint – a list of 5 books that have shaped your life. And for every Bookprint, Scholastic Book Clubs will donate a book. It is that easy to make a difference this holiday season!

Here are Whoopi’s books:
- The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
- Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie
- East of Eden by John Steinbeck
- To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
- The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum

With your readers help, Scholastic Book Clubs will donate up to one million books to Reach Out and Read, to help put books into the hands of children in need through pediatricians offices around the country. Now more than ever, Reach Out and Read needs our help. Recent government funding cuts has made it a major challenge for literacy organizations like Reach Out and Read to continue to get books into the hands of kids in need. Join Judy Blume, Malcolm Gladwell, James Patterson, Jodi Picoult, Suzanne Collins, and make your bookprint today!

Introducing Strange Chemistry

Strange Chemistry is a brand new imprint for YA books. We are the sister imprint to Angry Robot books, who have created a name for themselves as publishing excellent examples of sci-fi and fantasy novels. Some of you may know Amanda Rutter, Strange Chemistry's Editor, as the book blogger behind Floor to Ceiling Books.

We have our official launch next September, with exciting titles being announced up to that point. Until then, we want to engage with the YA community - read posts on the website, chat with us via Twitter at @strangechem and generally try to build a good relationship with all you lovely people.

We currently are running a series of posts on the Strange Chemistry site - YA Novels You Should Be Reading - and would love you to come join the discussion.
