Review: The Treasure Map of Boys by E. Lockhart

The Treasure Map of Boys by E. LockhartThe Treasure Map of Boys by E. Lockhart - WARNING! I cannot review this book without spoiling the other books in the series. Do not read any further if you haven't read the previous books and don't want them spoiled for you.

Ruby is back at Tate Prep, and it’s her thirty-seventh week in the state of Noboyfriend. Her panic attacks are bad, her love life is even worse, and what’s more:

· Noel is writing her notes,
· Jackson is giving her frogs,
· Gideon is helping her cook,
· and Finn is making her brownies.
· Rumors are flying, and Ruby’s already sucky reputation is heading downhill.

Not only that, she’s also:

· running a bake sale,
· learning the secrets of heavy metal therapy,
· encountering some seriously smelly feet,
· defending the rights of pygmy goats,
· and bodyguarding Noel from unwanted advances.

Ruby struggles to secure some sort of mental health, to understand what constitutes a real friendship, and—if such a thing exists—to find true love.

Having loved the previous two books in the series, as soon as this book arrived, I immediately started reading. Yet another fantastic book in this series read in one day!

Boys continue to be confusing in this book, with them sending mixed signals, or not sending any signals at all and Ruby just thinks there are signals to read, or simply won't come out and say exactly what they mean. With her still being a social pariah, and the various other aspects of her life these boys are linked to - like friends and ex-friends - the confusion over these boys, what they mean, and what that means for everything else in her life pushes Ruby back to panic attacks.

And I love it all! Well, not the fact that Ruby's mental health is going down hill again, but the funny situations she finds herself in and the way she thinks and agonises over what's happening. She's just hilariously funny, and I love her!

I have to say, I love the constant visits to Doctor Z. Even when she doesn't say very much, she has a way of making Ruby look at things differently, which works on me and how I think of Ruby's situation too. Despite being very funny books, this series is great for showing just how helpful seeing a psychologist can be if you need it. I think it's just wonderful.

Not a very long review, but I don't want to spoil anything or repeat what I've said in previous reviews - though it's all still true! I love these books, and I hate that there's only one left to read, Real Live Boyfriends. I am really looking forward to it, though!
