GLBT Challenge 2010: The Challenge That Dare Not Speak Its Name

GLBT challenge I've decided to join another reading challenge for 2010. This time it's The Challenge That Dare Not Speak Its Name - a GLBT challenge, run by blog GLBT Reading.

There are several levels to this challenge, each with a different number of books to read. I've chosen to go for the Pink Triangle Level, which is 8 books, as I've signed up for two other challenges already. Don't want to overload my plate.

ETA: Chosen all my books now; thanks to all for recs and links to lists! Really appreciate it!

The rules state that books can cross over from other challenges, so I have a few I can name already.

These are the books I'll be reading.

1. Sprout by Dale Peck
2. Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan
3. Between Mom & Jo by Julie Anne Peters
4. The Bermudez Triangle by Maureen Johnson
5. My Heartbeat by Garret Freymann-Weyr
6. Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist
7. Annie on My Mind by Nancy Garden
8. The Year They Burned the Books by Nancy Garden

  1. Thank you for joining! I have lots of good recommendations for YA books: Between Mom and Jo by Julie Anne Peters (best GLBT book I've ever read), The Bermudez Triangle by Maureen Johnson, My Heartbeat by Garret Freymann-Weyr, Pedro & Me by Judd Winick...also, if you check the Resources page on the GLBT Reading blog, it has links to a lot of different lists. Jen and I will be adding to that page soon.

  2. It's no problem! I have read very little GLBT fiction - only one for Sex in Teen Lit Month, and I do think this is an important subject. I'm looking forward to it!
Thanks for all the recs, I shall look them up!

  4. The only book that springs to mind is What I Was by Meg Rosoff. I really enjoyed it! Good luck with the challenge.

  5. Shellie - Thanks for the link, I'll have a look! Cheers! I'm looking forward to the challenge!

Becky - Cheers for the rec, but I'm not a fan of Meg Rosoff. I've read one of her books before and, oh, how I disliked her writing style. Not for me. But thanks anyway!

  6. I'm going to sign up for this one too. I just have to post about it and link up my post! LOL I'm a bit of a slowpoke, but it'll be the first challenge I ever do. As for YA GLBT fiction...

Julie Anne Peters has a lot like Luna (transgender) and Rage: A Love Story (lesbian). Those are only two.

I forget the author, but I've heard of this book Lucky I believe...it's about a boy who is bi.

Some newer books about some gay teens are David Inside Out by Lee Bantle and Vast Fields of Ordinary by Nick Burd.

I haven't read all of these but the ones I haven't, I want too. Oh, and I did read all three Rainbow Boys books by Alex Sanchez. Those are great. It's Rainbow Boys, Rainbow High, and Rainbow Road (in that order).

I really want to read this one called Out of the Pocket too.

  7. Thanks so much for all the recs, Lauren! I have all my books listed for this challenge, but I still have one more category left for the 1010 challenge, so maybe I'll go for GLBT for that and include these books. Cheers!
