Guest Post: Tess Sharpe on Writing LGBTQ YA

I am so excited to have Tess Sharpe stopping by my blog today. Her debut novel, Far From You, will be released from Hyperion in the US and Indigo in the UK in Spring 2014. Today, Tess is discussing writing a novel with LGBTQ characters.

I was so excited when Jo asked me to be a part of her LGBTQ book month. YA LGBTQ fiction is one of my biggest passions—from Malinda Lo to Brent Hartinger—and I’m so glad to be talking with y’all today! We’ll be looking at the differences and challenges of writing an LGBTQ love story compared to the straight stuff. Because I write mainly YA contemporary, that’s the genre that I’m going to focus on, though these ideas might apply to other genres too.
