The Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag 2019

Seeing as we're now in July (how? HOW?!), today I'm taking part in The Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag! Not all of these questions are the original questions - I got rid of three, and added three questions Cait of Paper Fury created in her own tag. For all the original questions, head to Cait's post, where she has a handy list. And now, onwards!

How many books have you read?
At the end of June, I'd only read 29 books! Just 29! I'm not the fastest reader, but even so, that is really pretty low for me. But I've had several migraines which meant I couldn't read, and several books it took me forever to read because I just wasn't that interested. And I've also realised that now I schedule posts well in advance, blogging is actually cutting into my reading time. But I'm not going to let it bother me. I read at the rate that I read, and that's fine.

I do love a book tag! They're so good when you're having a day where you can't think of blog content. Today, I'm going to be taking part in the 20 Questions Book Tag which I stole from Paper Fury, and this one in particular is really fun! So many interesting questions! So let's get to it!

1. How many books are too many for a series?
See, this is a funny one, because my answer absolutely depends on who the author is, and how many books in/behind I am.

If it's Cassandra Clare and all the Shadow Hunters books - well, I've only read the first two in the Mortal Instruments series, but then she kept coming out with another series, and another, then another. And while I enjoyed the two books I read, I just decided, "Nope." I was too far behind and didn't want to invest any more time on these books when it would take me so long to catch up.

Are You On Father Christmas' Naughty or Nice List?

Merry Christmas! It's Chrsitmas Day, and so what better day to think about whether my behaviour over the past year has me on Father Christmas' Nice List. I don't know about you, but for me. Christmas just isn't Christmas without a visit from Father Christmas. To find out if I am on his Nice List, I have stolen the The Naughty or Nice Book Tag from Cait of Paper Fury. Ahem. There are quite a few. But that doesn't mean I won't review them. Except for those I never requested/accepted in the first place and aren't my cup of tea. The others will get reviewed at some point. But being a mood reader, I can't just pick up a book because I have to review it. I can only read what I fancy reading. The Smashing & Dashing 2018 Character Awards Book Tag

The end of the year is drawing ever nearer, and it's time to start talking about our favourite books of the year! While my normal, full length post looking back over 2018 is still to come, it talks about the books themselves, while Cait of Paper Fury's The Smashing & Dashing 2018 Character Awards Book Tag talks about the characters! It looks like fun, so I thought, why not?

I just want to note that I'm talking about books I read this year, not necessarily books that were published this year. I would really struggle, otherwise. Oky doky, onwards!


1. Most Relatable Character



My review.
I know White Rabbit, Red Wolf by Tom Pollock is this huge, twisty thriller, and no, my life is nothing like that. But I did relate to Peter and his anxiety. While my anxiety isn't anywhere near as bad as his, I related to his struggles, to his panic attacks, and was inspired by how he continued and carried on, despite his anxiety. He was inspiring as well as relatable, and I absolutely loved him.

The #RamdanReadathon Book Tag

The #RamadanReadathon, run by Nadia of Headscarves and Hardbacks, is back this year, taking place between 17th May and 15th June. And this year, there is a #RamadanReadathon book tag, created by Amna of YA Book Corner.

Now, sadly, I'm unable to take part in the #RamadanReadathon as I originally planned. As you may know, I'll be having a blog event in July, Mental Illness in YA Month, and I've still got quite a few books I want to read for the event. I'm currently reading The City of Brass by S. A. Chakraborty for the #RamadanReadathon, and the plan was to alternate reading a book for the readathon and a book for Mental Illness in YA Month but after I've finished The City of Brass, I'll be focusing solely on the books I want to get read for the blog event. I'll post a separate post about what this means for the blog, but as there won't be so many reviews for the readathon, I thought I could highlight a few more Muslim authors by taking part in the book tag! So read on for my answers!

Ramadan Readathon Book Tag

Name a book that you felt represented you or that you were able to relate to.
I'm not Muslim, so this one isn't one I can answer with a book written by a Muslim authors - if you know of any YA books by Muslim authors featuring anxiety, please do recommend them!


But the book I related to the most was Under Rose Tainted Skies by Louise Gornall. I read it when my anxiety was starting to show itself and I was waiting for a doctor's appointment to get a diagnosis and some help. I was terrified, at the time, of what having anxiety would mean for me, but fortunately, I read Under Rose Tainted Skies. I don't have OCD and Agoraphobia, but I do have anxiety, and though mine was never as severe as Norah's, it made such a difference to read this story. I felt seen, I felt understood, and as Norah's story ended on a hopeful note, it gave me hope in regards to my own anxiety, when I was so terrified. It was exactly the right book at the right time for me, and I absolutely loved it. You can read my review here.

The Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag

Today, I'm taking part in The Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag - which Cait of Paper Fury has kindly allowed her readers to steal from her. So, onwards, yes?

THE BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR SO FAR

This is going to have to be Assassin's Fate by Robin Hobb. It's the final book in the Fitz and the Fool trilogy, but it's also the finale to a story that spanned 16 books - four trilogies and a quartet. This story has been with me since I was a teenager, and not only did it answer all left over questions, but it ended in  a wonderful, satisfying ending. And though I know I'll always re-read these books, I'm going to miss these characters and this world, and going off on new adventures with Fitz and the Fool. This book will definitely stay with me for a very long time.

I've been tagged by Sarah of Sarah Withers Blogs for The Book Fests Awards tag. I'm a big fan of tags, but don't get tagged that often, so I'm really looking forward to this. For the official rules of the tag, check out Sarah's blog, but I'm not following the rules exactly, so I'm not posting them. Ok, on to the tag!

A book you started and never finished, but want to finish? What stopped you from continuing to read it?

Animal by Sara Pascoe. It's so interesting, looking at society, and at evolution and why society might be as it is in terms of inequality, and I really was learning a lot... but I was in the mood for some fiction, so I put it down, and I just haven't picked it up yet. I haven't read any non-fic since then. Fiction is where my real passion is, so, although I learn a lot through non-fic, I really need to be in the right mood to read it. I will pick Animal back up again at some point.

Unpopular Opinions Book Tag

The super awesome Cait of Paper Fury has tagged me to take part in the Unpopular Opinions book tag - created by The Book Archer. This makes me happy! I hardly ever get tagged in these things, and who doesn't like having the odd moan? This sounds like fun!


1. A popular book or series you didn't like.


Matched series by Ally Condie. Couldn't get past the first book, really unbelievable characters. The same with both The Demon's Lexicon and The Lynburn Legacy by Sarah Rees Brennan. I found the characters so annoying. Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. Really don't understand why people like it. And don't get me started on the House of Night series by P.C. and Kristin Cast. Just not my bag.

What with signing up to Instagram recently and seeing all the awesome #bookstagram photos, I've been really into taking photos of books lately. I'm still pretty much an amateur, but I'm enjoying it. So when Cait at Paperfury took part in the Find Me Tag, and invited anyone to join in, even if they weren't tagged, I decided to take part.

A Book With a Sunset

I couldn't find a book with a sunset, unfortunately, so I cheated. Curse the Dawn by Karen Chance features a dawn, so the opposite of a sunset. Though, if we're being honest, it's probably just some clouds whose colour has been photoshopped to look like dawn. But it's supposed to be dawn. So I'm going to count it for this as it's opposite.

This is several books in to the Cassie Palmer series by Karen Chance, an adult urban fantasy series that is just amazing! So fast paced and action packed! I actually need to buy the next book in this series.
