A New Direction for Once Upon a Bookcase:

Now an LGBTQ+ Children's & Fantasy Book Blog

It's the last day of Pride Month, and there's no better time to announce that there is going to be a change of direction for Once Upon a Bookcase. From now on, this blog will be a primarily LGBTQ+ book blog!

We are getting such a range of LGBTQ+ stories now, across a range of genres, and there's so much to read! I've also found that I'm generally drawn to queer fiction over cishet fiction. And with the work I'm doing at the bookshop I work at on the permanent LGBTQ+ YA section, the permanent LGBTQ+ YA & MG table, and LGBTQ+ books in the Children's Department as a whole, I'm so hugely passionate about these books, and that passion has me wanting to do more. To shout about them loudly outside of work more. To read more widely, to highlight them here, to help, in another way, queer readers find the right books for them.

Changes to Once Upon a Bookcase

You may not have really noticed - since I've been on top of my scheduling game for months, and it's only this week that posts haven't been posted as usual - but I've been on hiatus for a few weeks. If it had gone on much longer, I would have written a post to let you know, but I'm coming back now. There have been a number of things that have happened in my family life recently, and I just needed to take a break to focus on my family and myself, and my own well being.

Once Upon a Bookcase Is Now My Sole Book Review Blog

From today, 24th February 2012, Once Upon a Bookcase is now my sole book blog.

I originally had two book blogs; Once Upon a Bookcase, my YA book blog, and Ink and Paper, where I reviewed fantasy, adult and YA. Whenever I reviewed a YA fantasy/sci-fi novel, I would always cross post it to Ink and Paper. I have decided to save myself time, I will review all books I read from this point forward on Once Upon a Bookcase.

All reviews, whether they be of adult fantasy novels or YA fantasy I reviewed on Ink and Paper before I set up Once Upon a Bookcase, have all been transferred to this blog. You may check out my Reviews List to see reviews from my other blog you may have missed.

So if you see reviews on this blog that are not YA - whether they are fantasy or otherwise - you now know why. Any book I read, whatever the genre or target audience, shall now be reviewed here.

For any authors or publicists reading, please check out my updated Review Policy.

For those who are taking part in the Morganville Vampires Reading Challenge, Ink and Paper will still be up and running for th duration of the challenge, I simply won't review on that blog anymore.

Blog Update - It May Be a Little Quiet

Just an update on the blog and where things are going.

It may be a little quiet on here for a while. For three weeks (including this week), I am on work experience, I then have a week off, and then I start again. By the time I get home, eat, and get myself settled, I am absolutely shattered. I am left with only a few hours for myself - to watch TV, catch up with the family, read (though, of course, I read during my breaks :) ), etc. I do check and catch up on email, but my energy levels are low and I can't focus well, so there may be fewer posts from me for a while. I'd rather there be less posts on my blog than crappy ones because I can't concentrate. When the weekend comes round and I have more time, I plan to schedule some posts so there will be something, but don't expect too much. Hopefully I'll soon get used to the routine, will feel less tired, and will be able to do more, but just in case I don't, I thought I should let you know.

(I am in deep admiration for those of you who have a full time job and find the time to blog. I am in complete and utter awe of those with a full time job AND children, and find the time to blog. You people are amazing!)
