2013 Debut Author Challenge and Introducing Debuts Posts

2013 Debut Author ChallengeAs Tara over at Hobbitsies is taking over the Debut Author Challenge for 2013, I've decided to sign up! However, before I knew what was happening with the DAC, I wanted to make sure I was supporting debut authors on my blog, and have been putting in some work towards it.

So, throughout next year, you will get to read a number of interviews with YA AND New Adult authors whose novels are debuting in the UK in 2013. There will be interviews before publication that cover the book, the author and the writing process, and after publication that will cover the publication process and reader response. Quite a number of authors will be taking part, so you will be able to discover quite a few debuts that you may not already know about. I'll create a page that will link to all the interviews that I will update as the year goes on.

I'm really looking forward to reading and introducing you all to all the debuts I can next year! It should be good!

LGBTQ YA Month - Want To Contribute?

You may or may not know that in July 2013, I will be holding a new blog event on Once Upon a Bookcase - LGBTQ YA Month. I have in the past invited people to take part with me on their own blog, but I'm not doing that this year. I think this event will be much bigger than previous ones, and I've started my reading early. It's hard enough keeping myself organised with everything I have planned, and it would be too stressful trying to keep tabs on what others are doing for the month too.

Despite this, it would be great if people were willing to contribute to the month with guest posts. Whether you're an LGBTQ person or not, if you would like to write a guest post about LGBTQ YA, that would be awesome! Have a think about what you would like to write about, leave a comment with your email address (though be careful how you write it, I don't want you to get spam!) or email me (see the tabs above), and I'll contact you to discuss your topic. I would like to ask that there aren't too many guest review suggestions as I will be writing a fair number of reviews myself.

Also, if there are any authors who would like to contribute a guest post about LGBTQ YA - whether you write it or not - you're more than welcome! Again, if you either leave your email address in the comments or email me, I'll then get back to.

Thank you all! I look forward to hearing from you :)

Bitter Blood by Rachel CaineBitter Blood by Rachel Caine

I was sent this review copy for free by Allison & Busby for the purposes of providing an honest review.

WARNING! I cannot review this book without spoiling the others in the series. Read no further if you're planning on reading this series and don't want it spoilt for you.

Now that the threat to the vampires of Morganville has been defeated, the gravest danger to the human residents is the enemy within...

For years, the human and vampire residents of Morganville have managed to coexist in peace. But thanks to the eradication of the parasitic creatures known as the draug, the vampires of Morganville have now been freed of their usual constraints. With the vampires indulging their every whim, the town's human population is determined to hold on to their lives by taking up arms. College student Claire Danvers with ties to both humans and vampires, isn't about to take sides.

To make matters worse, a television show comes to Morganville searching for ghosts, just as vampire and human politics collide. Now, Claire and her friends have to figure out how to keep the peace without ending up on the nightly news or... worse.
From the blurb.

She thought she'd be safe in the country, but you can't escape your own nightmares, and Lis London dreams repeatedly that someone is trying to kill her.

Lis thinks she's being paranoid - after all who would want to murder her? She doesn't believe in the local legends of witchcraft. She doesn't believe that anything bad will really happen to her. You never do, do you? Not until you're alone in the woods, after dark - and a twig snaps...

Hollow Pike - where witchcraft never sleeps.
