Weekly Gossip

Here is your bookish news from the past week.

Cover reveals! Hodder and Stoughton have released a few covers! Firstly, here's the UK paperback cover for Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver, which was released on the UK Delirium Facebook Page:

Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver

What do you think? I think it's gorgeous! So pretty and summery! So much better than the orange of the hardback!

And, next, the cover for Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor! From the publishers themselves:

So here it is, the UK cover of DAYS OF BLOOD AND STARLIGHT, the incredible sequel to DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE! And not content with any old cover reveal, we have brought the fiery jacket to life with some rather hypnotising flickering flames...

It occurred to us that this would make a great screensaver/wallpaper for mobile phones, so why not download the animated image and add it to yours? (You can get free apps that allow you to upload animated .gifs as your wallpaper, or if that doesn't work with your phone you can just use the static cover image instead)

Now here are both versions

What do we think? I think it's a brilliant effect in the animated version, but even the static version is beautiful! I am so intrigued by the fire! But I guess that's what comes with war. Oooh, I am SO excited for this book! DOBAS will be released on 8th November, and you can preorder it here.

Also, here is the cover for Breathe by Sarah Crosson, an awesome sounding YA dystopian novel released on . Is it not just gorgeous?

Before I Wake by Rachel VincentRachel Vincent, YA author of the Soul Screamers series, held a live spoiler webchat on Saturday for all books in the SS series up to, and including, Before I Wake! I was fortunate enough to get to take part (and have all my questions answered!), and it's awesome! You can watch it here. Rachel actually mentions my name once, when I go to look at my flowchart, ha! If you've yet to read every book that has been released in the Soul Screamers series, including short stories and novellas, you may not want to watch it, as there will be spoilers. But if you have, it's a brilliant webchat, and Rachel is just so cool!

Strange Chemistry have announced two new acquisitions; Ingrid Jonach's When the World was Flat (and We Were in Love) and Playing Tyler by T.L. Costa. You can find out more by reading the When the World was Flat press release and the Playing Tyler press release. The synopses:

When the World was Flat (and We Were in Love)

There is no such thing as imagination.

Your dreams are memories from an alternate dimension.

And that cold shiver down your spine as you sleep means you are already dead.

These are the facts sixteen-year-old Lillie Hart must come to accept when the gorgeous and mysterious Tom Windsor-Smith arrives in her small Nebraskan town. These, and the fact that the two of them, Tom and Lillie, have been in love before – in a different dimension.

In fact, Tom has been sliding between parallel worlds for hundreds of years, falling in love with versions of Lillie over and over again in every world. But when the present Lillie learns the secret of their connection, she learns as well that their love must overcome more than their multiple past heartaches. There is also a powerful enemy who aims to ensure the two will never be together again, in this dimension or the next.
From the press release.

Playing Tyler by T.L. Costa

When is a game not a game?

Tyler MacCandless can’t focus, even when he takes his medication. He can’t focus on school, on his future, on a book, on much of anything other than taking care of his older brother, Brandon, who’s in rehab for heroin abuse… again.

Tyler’s dad is dead and his mom has mentally checked out. The only person he can really count on is his Civilian Air Patrol Mentor, Rick. The one thing in life it seems he doesn’t suck at is playing video games, and, well, that’s probably not going to get him into college.

Just when it seems like his future is on a collision course with a life sentence at McDonald's, Rick asks him to test a video game. If his score's high enough, it could earn him a place in flight school and win him the future he was certain that he could never have. And when he falls in love with the game’s designer, the legendary gamer Ani, Tyler thinks his life might finally be turning around.

That is, until Brandon goes MIA from rehab and Tyler and Ani discover that the game is more than it seems. Now Tyler will have to figure out what’s really going on in time to save his brother… and prevent his own future from going down in flames.
From the press release.

Oooh, they sound good, huh?! When the World was Flat makes me think of Lauren Kate's Fallen series (without the angels), The Eternal Ones by Kirsten Miller, or possibly even target="_blank">My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares. I am so intrigued! Playing Tyler sounds awesome! Along the similar lines of Insignia by S.J. Kincaid, Metawars by Jeff Norton, and BZRK by Michael Grant.

Strange Chemistry are also holding a competition for a Kindle or 12 months of Strange Chemsitry titles. Check it out!
