Blog Tour: Falling Fast by Sophie McKenzie

Today I have the honour of having Sophie McKenzie guest posting on my blog for her Falling Fast Blog Tour. Read on to find out what Sophie's favourite Contemporary Romances are. All links go to Goodreads.

Sophie McKenzieMy Favourite Contemporary Romances

Blood Red Road by Moira Young is a dystopian adventure story with a powerful romance at its centre. For me, the best scenes in the story are those featuring main character Saba and the man who helps – and infuriates – her, Jack. I should admit that I know Moira and had a chance to read much of this book before it was published but as soon as Jack arrived on the page I forgot all that and was totally swept up in the love story.

Diving In by Kate Cann opened my eyes to just how powerful contemporary YA romance can be. I love the conversational, confessional way Kate Cann writes. It’s like her characters are speaking directly to each reader, confiding their most secret thoughts and most heartfelt hopes.

All great romances need a fantastic male hero that the reader can fall in love with.
Diving In has this in Art, just as Blood Red Road has it in Jack. In Kevin Brooks’ Naked, there are two central – and intriguing – male characters: Curtis and William. I loved Naked from the beautiful first line on: ‘My heart was born in the long hot summer of 1976; my life was made, my love was sealed, my soul was lost and broken.’

falling fast by sophie mckenzieMy favourite book of recent months is definitely
The Fault in our Stars by John Green. This moving account of a girl with terminal cancer and the boy she falls in love with manages to be funny without being crass and deeply moving but never mawkish. Hazel and Augustus felt like real people to me and their story made me cry.

I’m finishing not with a book, but with a film that blew me away when I saw it recently.
The Artist has won lots of awards and I hope that encourages anyone to see it who might otherwise be put off by the fact that it’s a silent movie made in black and white. The Artist is a sweet love story and a total breath of fresh air.

Thank you, Sophie, for such a great post! What do you think of Sophie's choices? Be sure to check out Sophie's website. Falling Fast was released on 4th March!
