ETA: Since reading this it has been pointed out to me that Rebel of the Sands is problematic due to cultural appropriation, stereotypes of Middle Eastern people, and misrepresenting the Islamic faith. Because of this - although I haven't changed my review for the purposes of transparency - I can no longer recommend this book in any way.
