I have a friend who thinks YA ...I completely agree. I have a friend who thinks YA isn't well written purely because it's YA and doesn't have ridiculously long, pretentious words. But quite frankly what he recommends bores me with its long winded descriptions. Why can't people understand each genre for its positives and what people enjoy about it..?Hannah Mariskahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16619039217059753515noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2381533012764037154.post-42892825007687103332012-12-22T08:39:14.318+00:002012-12-22T08:39:14.318+00:00I feel the exact same way! I can read anything but YA is my fave!

I don't think anyone should be make to feel ashamed of what they are reading. People tried it with me when I read and loved Fifty Shades. I told them where to go.

I'm one of those people that is happy when someone is simply reading. I don't care what. And those who don't read. That's nothing to be ashamed off I agree with you. Some people just don't like reading. And that's perfectly ok. :)

Wee Shubbahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16472597614922811986noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2381533012764037154.post-6299313023337890442012-12-21T14:26:08.658+00:002012-12-21T14:26:08.658+00:00Thank you, Lisa!

Exactly!

And you're so right about the generalisations! It's ridiculous!

You have reminded me that I left out a good chunk of what I wanted to say in my post - why I personally read YA. YA does have so much to offer all ages, and for me, I read it because it reminds me of the excitment of teen years; all the firsts, firguring out who you are, and battling all other issues on top of that. I'm in my mid-twenties, but I feel so much younger and still relate to YA novels. I just love the intensity or YA, everything is important to the characters, everything is considered carefully/has a major impact or causes so much angst. We don't get so much of that in adult novels.

But yes, great points, Lisa! Thanks for stopping by!Johttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02828378728962868575noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2381533012764037154.post-84107271766683844142012-12-21T14:13:23.400+00:002012-12-21T14:13:23.400+00:00Brilliant post Jo! I'm glad to have inspired because this is an ISSUE that needs to be addressed!

You're absolutely right about the fact that people should not be judged by what they read whether it be military and espionage, YA or popular fiction. We call ourselves a reading community yet there is nothing communal about putting down other people for what they read JUST because it's not something you would read.

AND for the matter, YA has to much to offer to people of all ages. You don't see people making generalisations about ALL adult fiction purely based on Mills and Boon novels so I don't understand why YA readers get grief for the generalisation that ALL YA NOVELS are trash based on GOD KNOWS WHAT BOOK!

I'M NOT ASHAMED TO READ YA FICTION.

Fantastic post!
